Swans with black and white collars are a common sight around Melbourne. These swans are part of an ongoing study conducted by The University of Melbourne. To facilitate this research, numerous birds from Albert Park Lake have been fitted with uniquely numbered neck collars which enable researchers to identify individual swans and monitor their movements and wellbeing over time. Prior to the project's initiation, thorough evaluations were conducted to ensure the safety and appropriateness of the collar design. They do not interfere with the swans' natural behaviour and do not cause any harm.
